I offer you, our growing community of empowered practitioners, my deep yearning for your happiness.
Just as a vine reaches and extends curiously into the unknown, seeking the next moment, the next opportunity, we are also always reaching, growing. The beauty of life is its ever changing landscapes, literally in the physical world and more subtly within our own inner experiences. But if we reach without rooting, what are we reaching for? Without the roots of wise intention and skillful means as support, will we be satisfied, content, happy, at peace, when we receive what we reach for? How long will the pleasure of owning a new car last? How fulfilling will my partner be when I’ve been with him/her for a year, two years, ten years? What happens when my body ages, and I feel out of control? Who am I when my job is no more?
These are questions we can explore, heal, and grow through together so that our fullness is rooted, nurtured, and cultivated from within. A vine can extend only so far as its roots can support, balanced also by the conditions of its external environment. And when winter comes, the leaves may freeze, the winds may scatter the signs of visible life. Yet, its roots remain vibrant, protected, cocooning itself for the next blossoming.
The root of Agame (Ah-gahm-e) is an offering of connection, healing, and growth. May you be connected to a strong, vibrant, healthy, albeit imperfect, community that will support your own inner connection for your different kind of happy. We each start where we are, but as we come together, we can do together that which seems unbearable alone. And as you explore and experiment, seeking and growing, laughing and crying, may you be fully open to the many ways happy can be experienced in your life.
